VW Piezometer

A VW Piezometer is a geotechnical instrument used to measure pore water pressure or groundwater pressure in soil, rock, or concrete. It uses vibrating wire technology to provide accurate and long-term monitoring, especially in dams, embankments, foundations, and slopes.

How It Works

The main sensing element is a vibrating wire connected to a diaphragm.
The piezometer is placed in a borehole, standpipe, or embedded in a structure.
When water pressure acts on the diaphragm, it causes a slight deflection.
This deflection changes the tension in the vibrating wire, altering its natural frequency.
An electromagnetic coil excites the wire and measures the frequency of vibration.
The frequency is converted into water pressure using a calibration curve.
