A VW Load Cell is a type of sensor used to measure force or load in civil, geotechnical, and structural engineering applications. It uses vibrating wire technology to provide accurate and stable measurements over long periods, making it ideal for monitoring structural loads in projects like tunnels, dams, retaining walls, and piles.

How It Works

The load cell typically consists of a steel cylinder or ring with three or more vibrating wire strain gauges embedded inside.
When a load or force is applied to the load cell, it causes slight deformation of the metal body.
This deformation changes the tension in the vibrating wires inside.
The change in tension affects the natural frequency of vibration of the wire.
An electromagnetic coil excites the wire and reads the frequency, which is directly related to the magnitude of the applied load. The system converts the frequency into a load reading (usually in kN or tons)
