A Vibrating Wire Strain Gauge is a type of sensor used to measure strain (deformation) in structures such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, dams, and other civil engineering applications.

How It Works :

The core component is a tightly stretched wire that is fixed at both ends inside a protective housing. When the structure to which the gauge is attached experiences strain (either compression or tension), the length of the wire changes slightly.
This change in length alters the natural frequency at which the wire vibrates.
An electromagnetic coil excites the wire to vibrate, and the gauge measures the frequency of this vibration.
Since the vibration frequency is directly related to the strain in the wire, it can be converted into a precise strain measurement.
